Princely figure of Maitreya, a Buddhist saviour (bodhisattva), seated in the "European" mannner, his elaborate headdress set againsgt a plain nimbus (prabha). He holds an ascetic's water jar (kamandalu) associated in Buddhism with gems, the symbol of Buddhist knowledge.
