Jim Cooke's photographs examine the process of development and decline of industrial landscapes throughout Europe. His subjects are the recently ravaged sites and monumental structures of mines, factories, docks, railways and car parks as well as the more softened terrain of long-abandoned developments. His use of a large camera, making detailed 10 x 8 inch negatives, entails a suitably time-consuming and contemplative approach to image making that deals with the fragile balance of landscapes both natural and man made.
