This semicircular model in wax entitled 'the Old Man' depicts an elderly man striding forward, supported by a walking stick. Two women stand on the left, and a young man stands on the right, leaning toward the elderly man. The scene refers to Shakespeare's 'Seven Ages'. The designer Daniel Maclise (1806-1870), of Irish origin, was active in England. He was particularly interested in Shakespearean themes.
