The painting, for which this is one of the working drawings, is a 6' x 12' acrylic on canvas panorama of Hong Kong as seen on 1st July 1997, the date which marked the end of the United Kingdom's 99-year lease of the territory and the hand-over to China. The painting was commissioned for the occasion by Cable & Wireless plc. It hangs in the convention and Exhibition Centre where the hand-over ceremony took place.
